Irricana, AB – With the prairie sun setting behind a row of classic cars and country fans gathered by the hundreds, the Cars and Country Stars Music Festival returned in 2021 with a stacked lineup—and one supporting act stole the spotlight.

Tacoma Shocks the Crowd as a Breakout Supporting Act

Though still rising on the national stage, Alberta-based Tacoma delivered a performance that had all the hallmarks of a headliner. From the first note, the five-piece group hit the ground running, treating the crowd to a high-energy, no-filler set that left a lasting impression on both fans and fellow performers.

“They played like they were closing the show,” said one festivalgoer. “You could feel the hunger. You could feel the edge.”

While their single “Bottle Rocket” hadn’t officially dropped yet, the band previewed the track to roaring approval. With its big chorus and backroad energy, it was clear the song was destined to launch them into the next tier. Lead vocalist Ronnie Kerr had the crowd locked in from the first verse to the final beat, supported by tight musicianship and a road-seasoned presence that belied their supporting status.

Tacoma may not have closed the night, but they certainly left their mark.

The Legends Lead the Night

Julian Austin

The outlaw edge of Canadian country, Julian Austin headlined the night with raw vocals, pounding rhythms, and the kind of stage presence you only earn through decades on the road. His set had everything from barroom anthems to heartfelt tributes, keeping the crowd both rowdy and reflective.

Duane Steele

Known for his songwriting chops and smooth delivery, Duane Steele brought soul and story to the festival. His acoustic-driven moments hushed the crowd, while his full-band numbers reminded everyone why he’s one of Canada’s most respected country artists.

High Steppin’ Daddy

Injecting a rockabilly twist into the evening, High Steppin’ Daddy got the crowd dancing with their upbeat blend of classic and modern country. Their harmonies and tight grooves brought an early jolt of energy that set the tone for the night.

An Alberta Festival with Staying Power

The 2021 edition of Cars and Country Stars proved that Alberta’s country scene is thriving—and Tacoma’s breakout set proved there’s a new wave of talent ready to carry the torch. While Julian Austin and Duane Steele brought the heritage and headline chops, it was Tacoma’s raw firepower and forward momentum that turned heads.

Expect to see them much higher on the poster next year.
